WANTED: A FOREVER FAMILY

Every Child Deserves The Love of A Family

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for the info! I spoke to a Donna at Linda Creed and she could not be any nicer. They are going to pay for me to get an UltraSound at Chestnut Hill next week. This having no insurance thing, and being young makes it difficult to find a program that will work with me, but they are really nice and extremely helpful :-)

thanks again!

Relocating from Va., my plan was to marry the father of my 5 children. 2 of them handicapped. Shortly after I arrived my fiancé passed away and we were virtually homeless. I went everywhere and did everything I could and my church couldn’t even help me. Not only did FAMILY, Inc. find us an appropriate place to live, we also received home furnishings and clothing. Because of my bad credit, FAMILY, Inc. vouched for me to assure the landlord that I would pay on time. Praise God that I’ve been here 2 years and have never missed a payment. My credit situation is turning around. D.L., North Philadelphia

FAMILY, Inc. helped me get my grandson from DHS before they put him in some group home or strange place. I have been doing kinship care for nine months and its working well. – B.C., Hunting Park

I lived in the projects and my son was selling drugs from our home. He carelessly caused a fire and I was thrown out into the streets. I answered many ads to find somewhere to live but no one would give me a chance. FAMILY Inc. literally wiped away my tears and found a landlord that was willing to take the risk. I’ve been in my 2-bedroom apartment for over a year and without any problems. I even got a raise at my job! – D.A., Logan

Being a foster mom has changed my life for the better. Experiencing that empty nest syndrome after my sons left home there was something missing. FAMILY, Inc. presented its plan to our Pastor and I was convinced to become certified. I now drag my 2 little ones to church every Sunday even though I had to quit the choir. All of my friends tease me and say that I look like a young mother again. What joy I have in helping these beautiful children, both of whom are gifts from God. – R.S.- Nicetown/Logan

I believe that FAMILY Inc will revolutionize the child welfare system across the country. J.W. – Eastwick

This program has the support of Congressman Fattah, Dr. Howard Stevenson from Univ. of Pa., area churches and child welfare agencies. The platform of FAMILY Inc. is long overdue. S. Jenkins, Haverford

We just got married but we plan to adopt children, thanks to the efforts of FAMILY Inc. –The Neducsins, Gladwynne

FAMILY Inc. has convinced me that faith-based initiatives are desperately needed so that ‘focus on the family can be realized’. There is a violence epidemic in Philadelphia and to prevent its worsening we must restore the family. G.D. – Royersford

I have 3 foster children and it’s great! Just let me know how I can assist the organization with fundraising, recruitment, or whatever. Blanche M., Limerick

My grandchildren were about to be put into foster care in Florida because my son had died and their mother turned to drugs. I heard about it and went there right away. I couldn"t see this happening to the five of them and I know that they wouldn"t be kept together. I went to court and the Judge didn"t even ask me how much money I make or what size house I have. He said "Do you want them?". I said "Yes". He said "They"re yours". God meant for it to be this way because it was so easily done. Gloria, St. Thomas, U.S.V.I.

Below, you will find the testimony of someone who has endured the hardships of a troubled youth but has overcome her pain and anguish by the help of influential mentors who entered into her life.

Mentoring affected my life a great deal. I was adopted at the age two years by my uncle and aunt. After years of abuse and neglect, my uncle murdered my aunt in which I was the only eyewitness. As a result, I went to live with my father, stepmother and other brothers and sisters. I was a complete wreck. I emotionally and socially shut down. A psychologist described me as processing the mentality of a prisoner of war. If it wasn't for the many different mentors that came into my life and took me by the hand, I don't know where I would be today. They were teachers, neighbors, family, friends but most of all the word of God that brought me through this difficult time in my life. There were numerous people that took me in and showed me the power of wisdom and knowledge. Through their story and exposure to their lives, they showed me love. These individuals miraculously changed my life.
Today, I am a successful mentor, mother, wife, friend, sister, entrepreneur, loving life and disliking strife. I decided I would pass my story on to change the lives of others.  We can sit down and wait for something to happen or we can stand for a change that effects others, such as through mentoring. It doesn't take money, fancy things or even an advanced degree to give to someone else. The biggest gift you can give someone is the gift of yourself.

One of my most memorable mentors was Mrs. Minnie Mcintyre. She was a caring and compassionate individual who showed me love. I learned to cook from Mrs. Minnie whom I called Grand mom. She would cut fresh cut roses from her garden after I completed a year more in school. But the most important thing she did for me was allowing me to live with her at the age of sixteen when I was homeless and had nowhere else to go. As luck may have it, my husband's grandmother and Mrs. Minnie were best friends. It was there while living with Mrs. Minnie that I met my husband Jeremy.
